kathy & carol, still going strong since berkeley 1964.
Kathleen Larisch and Carol McComb continue to perform occasionally to this day, and sound as good (if not better) than in their folk revival heyday, when they appeared many a time at the Berkeley Folk Music Festival. You can find out more about them at their Wikipedia entry and, below, hear them from 2013.
Hi Carol. I’m pretty sure you won’t remember me–I’m an old acquaintance from the late ’60s, early ’70s in San Diego, an occasional friend of Darien Powell, and an outlier in the music scene of those years. You even tried to teach me guitar for a while! It was a noble effort, but, alas, ultimately not very successful. I stumbled across your info on the internet and found myself listening to the old K&C album, carried away by the haunting, ethereal ballads that first charmed me in 1966. Yes, it is I, Michelle Pinney, who last saw you getting into a cute little Karman Gilla, heading north. It sounds as if you’ve done quite well in your career. Congratulations and I hope you continue to create your music–complex in message, yet simple in its presentation. I really wish I’d paid more attention to those lessons! Live a good life and blessed be! Michelle
Hi Michelle — Carol isn’t at this website, but you can try her at http://www.carolmccomb.com/. I am posting images and stories here from the Berkeley Folk Music Festival Project, which tells the story of the Berkeley Folk Music Festival (1958-1970). Kathy and Carol often performed at the event. Good luck connecting with Carol. — Michael
