#147 - Filming About Architecture

Buried in the DVD extras of My Architect, Nathaniel Kahn's documentary about his father, Louis Kahn, is a comment about the similarities between assembling a building and creating a film.

Kahn the younger notices the similarities of structure and narrative, the strange combinations of industrial creation and personal vision, that link these two forms.

Standing in or gazing at Louis Kahn's staggering creations, our eyes blink over the buildings as if they were running, flickering filmstrips. Watching film, we build castles in our mind's eye.
