#103 - Revelations in the Woods Daniel Attoe's tiny, feverish landscape paintings of revelation-in-the-woods Midwestern settings comes across well online, but at Western Exhibitions their context accentuated their compressed, hissing desire and energy. The canvases are no more than one foot by one foot, but around them, on the blank walls, were minute, penciled messages about the art. It was as if the placards had escaped from their cold, curatorial tone and gotten lost, whispering and muttering desperate information far more crucial than canonical. 25 August 2006 |
