a more apt title would be, “raise awareness center”
My experience of it was the “organic pastoral” experience that Michael Pollen writes about in Omnivore’s Dilemma. The sign should read: “If you even notice this sign in the corner of the store, you can feel like you are being socially and politically active when in fact you are just buying things.” There’s a gnawing of absurdity about it. By the way, it’s a bit hard to see in the photo, but all the pamphlets below the sign are not for causes of one sort or another, but merely Whole Foods-produced fliers for various types of products in the store: advice on eating wheat germ, whole grains, protein, etc. I love wheat germ as much as the next crunchy Whole Foods shopper, but I’m not sure eating it is taking action of the sort the sign implies.
